Valuation coverage

Valuation coverage options

Valuation establishes a mover’s responsibility for loss or damage. It is not the same as insurance purchased by the customer.

Effective September 5, 2026

Your written election matters

Before household moving services begin, the written estimate and contract will disclose the valuation or liability terms available for the move. The option selected and acknowledged in those documents—not this general webpage—controls how a covered claim is evaluated.

Florida minimum valuation

For Florida household moves, a mover may not limit liability below 60 cents per pound per article. This is a weight-based limitation and can be substantially less than an item’s purchase price or replacement cost. The applicable limitation must be disclosed in writing when the estimate and contract are executed and before service begins.

Additional valuation options

If additional valuation coverage is offered for your move, its price, valuation rate, exclusions, deductibles, and claim terms will be provided in writing. You may accept or reject offered coverage as described in the move documents. Ask questions before signing if the available protection does not match the value of your goods.

High-value and unusual items

Identify antiques, artwork, designer pieces, collections, electronics, fragile stone or glass, and other unusually valuable items before the quote is accepted. We may require photographs, value documentation, special packing, a written inventory, or a specialist. Undisclosed items may not receive the handling or coverage they require.

Check your own coverage

Homeowners, renters, or other insurance may provide limited moving coverage or offer a rider. Fox & Dolly cannot advise whether your policy applies; ask your insurer before the move.

Questions before moving day

Contact us before signing if you want to understand the valuation choice, declare an item, or arrange special handling. Do not wait until after the item is loaded.

These website policies support, but do not replace, the written estimate, contract, inventory, valuation election, or other move documents provided for a specific service. When documents conflict, applicable law and the signed move documents control.
